Erect

In cities, we are surrounded by buildings: solid, massive monuments to human engineering and ego. But what goes into them? How many of us have ever seen half-ton sections gliding into place, all driven by a small person standing on the ground with a joystick. ERECT will examine this overlooked process with an artist’s eye, turning the construction of a high-rise building into a choreographed dance that emphasizes softness and smoothness as a new giant reaches into the sky. The installation will draw on footage and stills that were filmed and shot over a three month period in downtown Stockholm. At this point it is still an early work in progress. David and Hi-jin are beginning to consider a variety of artistic outcomes for this piece.
